Silver Creek Orchards, Inc. is a 7th generation family farm located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County Virginia. We grow a variety of fresh market apples, cider apples, wine grapes and have a commercial beef cattle operation.
Our family-owned orchards are where nature, tradition, and community come together. For seven generations, we've grown crisp, flavorful apples with care and pride on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our high-elevation location helps protect against frost and freeze damage, while cool mountain nights enhance the apples' flavor and rich color. We grow a wide variety of apples—and we invite you to taste the difference.
We established our cidery in 2016 and now produce cider year-round. Adam Cooke crafts our apple juice, supplying the hard cider industry along the East Coast. We grow several apple varieties specifically for cider production-such as Virginia Hewes Crab, Harrison, and Ruby Reds and many of our fresh market apples—such as GoldRush, Black Twig, and Winesap—also make excellent cider.
We’re excited to share a new variety we discovered—a chance seedling that we found growing along one of our creek banks. We named it ‘Ruby Red’ in honor of Ruth’s grandmother, whose nickname was Ruby.
Ruby Red is a unique type of crab apple, naturally high in sugar, acid, and tannins—ideal for cider making. It's primarily used as a blending apple to boost acidity and tannin structure in a cider. A blend of Ruby Red and Virginia Hewe’s Crab has taken home ‘Best in Show’ at the Virginia Governor’s Cup two years in a row.
Nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Silver Creek Orchards, Inc. Vineyard is a family-owned vineyard dedicated to cultivating premium wine grapes. Fruit has been grown on this land for generations, and in 1999, we planted our first wine grapes to meet the rising demand of Virginia’s growing wine industry. We've been expanding ever since, always striving to produce grapes of the highest quality.
We believe that sunlight is essential to great winemaking, which is why we carefully manage our canopies to keep the fruiting zones open and sun-exposed. Our commitment to sustainability and tradition is at the heart of everything we do—from soil management to harvest. Through environmentally responsible practices, we ensure our vines stay healthy and productive, season after season.
At Tye River Cattle Company, we operate a cow-calf program with Angus and Angus-cross mama cows. We're proud to produce high-performing sires known for excellent weight gain and superior marbling. Our cattle are marketed under the Tye River Cattle Company name and sold annually through the tele-auction each August.
